Wind Energy Symposium - June 5, 2008.
Promoting the use of renewable energy sources, particularly wind energy, is a critical issue facing communities throughout Michigan. Many residents are interested in using wind energy, yet are unsure of the type of turbine that would be best suited to their home or business. Conversely, local governments are wrestling with how to encourage the use of wind energy, while still ensuring that turbines are safely installed and have minimal impact to neighbors. To respond to both local officials and residents regarding these questions, the Ottawa County Planning Commission and Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) hosted a Wind Energy Symposium on June 5, 2008.
The purpose of the event was to provide practical information to local officials and interested residents on the use, cost, practicality, types, and siting of large and small wind energy facilities. The symposium covered a range of topics associated with wind energy. Several vendors were on hand with displays on various forms of wind energy.
