Net Zero Energy School Concept

GMB Architecture + Engineering will be unveiling a “Net Zero Energy School” concept at the GreenSchool/GreenTown Conference in Grand Rapids tomorrow, July 22. This school incorporates many design features that make it an exceptional educational facility while consuming very little energy. Additionally, it will generate sufficient energy on an annual basis to equal the energy it consumes.

These GMB design concepts can be applied to any building and include components such as a high performance/high thermal mass building envelope, hybrid solar/geothermal heat pump heating/cooling system, earthtube ventilation air preconditioning, energy recovery systems, daylight harvesting systems, high performance lighting, solar PV electrical generation and wind turbines. Anticipated cost premium for the design and construction of this concept could be as low as 10%.
