GMB Designs Newest Downtown Holland Building

Supporting the original concepts set forth by the City of Holland for its “Super Block” along 8th Street in downtown, GMB architects • engineers is designing a sister building to that which houses the firm’s headquarters known as Plaza Center. This newest building, to be called Plaza Center East, will be 4 stories, with retail on the first level and offices on levels 2 thru 4. Plaza Center East will be intricately detailed with variations of facade treatments and fenestration details. A unique feature of the building is the multiple outdoor balconies and spaces for interaction with the street and plaza to the east. This plaza has been conceived as an open space to break the length of the block and create a relief to the street facades. It will be a location to attract pedestrians and a place to carry out programming already underway in downtown. A below grade parking area will be constructed for building occupants which is anew and welcome concept in the downtown area. Plaza Center East is scheduled to begin construction in spring of 2007.
