History

During the course of our 50+ year history, we’ve learned a thing or two about relationships. Our company began with a relationship. Our founder, Gordon M. Buitendorp made a connection with Elzinga & Volkers Construction in downtown Holland, Michigan, and in 1968, Gordon M. Buitendorp Associates was born. Now operating as GMB, we’ve grown in many ways, but our passion for creating deep relationships has never left.

Shortly after the company started, we added mechanical engineering to our list of services, subsequently adding more: electrical engineering, interior design, landscape architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, and a full range of K-12 pre-bond marketing services. Our comprehensive team has grown to include over 140 employees in 9 disciplines across 4 locations. We have always believed that offering a full breadth of disciplines working together as a seamless team gives our clients the best possible results. We believe it, and we live it.

We acknowledge the presence and power of God in our lives and in our business. We're thankful for the unique talents and creativity we possess and the opportunity to express both in the work we do.

A lot of things have changed over the years: leadership, expanding our service offerings, growing into new office locations, but a few things remain constant. Throughout our history, GMB has remained true to our core values to advance our profession, to grow our ability to serve our clients, and to give back to the communities we live in.
